Pete Durdon

SDI/TDI Instructor #22442

Pete grew up in Whitney Point, NY and went to college on the shores of Lake Ontario at SUNY Oswego where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Education. One of his first jobs was working as a sailing instructor at Dorchester Park in Whitney Point, NY. Pete had always wanted to try diving and finally took the “plunge” in 2003 with his wife Kathi while vacationing in Barbados. He was immediately hooked and since then have become certified as a scuba instructor with both SDI/TDI and PADI and has also earned his license as a United States Coast Guard Captain. One of the highlights of Pete's diving career was the opportunity to train under the wing of John Chatterton, one of the world’s most well-known wreck divers, author of Shadow Divers and host of the History Channel’s Deep Sea Detectives TV series.

While Pete certainly loves diving in the blue waters of the Caribbean and South Florida whenever he can, he has become fascinated with the local history of the wrecks in the St. Lawrence River, Lake Ontario and pretty much any other local waters, during both the summer and winter months. Pete currently spends his free time doing both recreational and technical diving and has also recently become certified to dive the Hollis Explorer Rebreather. On weekends you will most likely find Pete somewhere up on the St. Lawrence River diving off his boat with Kathi, who is also a divemaster, or teaching diving in one of the many specialty courses we offer such as Sidemount, Solo Diving, and Full Face Mask.

Email Pete Durdon to schedule training or ask him a question.

Due to a rigorous work schedule and graduate school program he wasn’t able to complete his SSI Instructor course until 2010 while working in Virginia Beach.  While working in North Carolina and Virginia, Josh has had the privilege of working for and diving with several shipwreck and cave diving exploration pioneers. Let’s go diving!!!

Two of his favorite quotes are from a true legend…

"Buoyed by water, he can fly in any direction-up, down, sideways-by merely flipping his hand. Under water, man becomes an archangel."

— Jacques Yves Cousteau, Oceanographer

“The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever.”
